As much as I am a blog fanatic (I check my favorites twice, sometimes three times, a day), I would not consider myself a very good "social networker" in general. However, with the Nickelodeon's annual
Indie Grits Film Festival coming up, Andrew has had to do some observing of other film festivals and how they use websites like Facebook and Twitter to keep their fans up to date. We monitored
South by Southwest's Twitter for a few weeks and the consensus is: use social networking, but with purpose and to a minimum. So all of this social networking talk got me wanting to go back to the Twitter account I created and abandoned so many months ago and see how Twitter has evolved (I mean, come on, every business and blog are using it for marketing) and after my friend Julie showed me how she uses Twitter, I am totally hooked for two main reasons:
- Lists. I love lists. I love CONTROL. Twitter lets you categorize your contacts into little lists you create. My lists so far: ColumbiaEvents, ColumbiaFriends, DIY, Culinary, FreeStuff, SuzyHomemaker
- Organizations like Etsy, Real Simple mag, OnceWed, decor8, SuperBudget Columbia, etc., etc. all have Twitter accounts! Sold.
So after going in and giving my old Twitter account some new attention, I love it. Real Simple magazine twittered this recipe, which looks surprisingly a lot like the dishes I have been making for all of my meals to try to squeeze in vegetables and not go out. I love broccoli so I usually roast broccoli and throw it on pasta. My twists to this recipe are that I did not use meat but rather sauteed the vegetables in butter - so no prosciutto, though that or bacon would have been tasty. Secondly, I added baby portabella mushrooms (quartered) as well as cream cheese instead of feta (did not have feta in the house, though that would have been less fat) and no basil around.
